When the first gathering of the Christlieb-Chrislip family took place in Philippi, West Virginia, in 1983, John Watson Christlieb from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania attended. He brought with him two photographs that had belonged to his parents. They were labeled, “Our West Virginia Cousins.” Not knowing who the people were, he brought the pictures along hoping that someone in attendance could identify the people. Albert Jennings Crislip of Jane Lew, West Virginia, recognized the house in the photo as his family home and the people standing in the yard as members of his family. John Watson Christlieb recalled that his grandparents had visited their West Virginia relatives on more than the one occasion. The other photograph was of Albert Jennings Crislip’s parents, Albert Van Buren and Mary (Rexrode) Crislip.
