James Alfred Heckman

b. 1854

James Alfred Heckman (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3, Matilda Ellen Christlieb4) [834], born 1854; married 1st Catharine Elizabeth Gutshall, born 23 April 1853; died 15 March 1903; buried in Ziegler’s Church graveyard, Mifflin Township, Cumberland County; married 2nd, Carlisle, Cumberland, Pennsylvania, 19 Aug 1905, Myrtle B. McCoy, born 1880.

The 1860 Federal Census shows that James A. Heckman and family were residing in the household of Solomon Christlieb. The 1870 census shows him no longer living with the Heckmans, in indication that his marriage had occurred during that ten-year interval.

The 1910 census taken at Carlisle, Cumberland County lists James A. Heckman, House Carpenter, born 1854, along with his wife, Myrtle, born 1880; son Raymond, born 1909. Residing with the family was Aunt Lucinda Lay, born 1828, a widow.

He married twice; his first wife, Mary Hurley, died in 1920. After Mary’s death, Irving L. Heckman married Mabel ___.

  • Bertie Elnora Heckman (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3, Matilda Ellen Christlieb4, James A. Heckman5) [835], born 23 January 1878; died 17 March 1895.

  • Ira Ernest Heckman (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3, Matilda Ellen Christlieb4, James A. Heckman5) [835], born 10 March 1881; died 31 January 1932 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; married, 3 February 1914, Carrie Mae Hefflebower, daughter of George Thompson Hefflebower and Martha Elizabeth Duncan. Carrie Mae was born 11 May 1874; died 17 April 1970 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. No issue.

  • Infant Son (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3, Matilda Ellen Christlieb4, James A. Heckman5) [835], died 1886.

  • Raymond Porter Heckman (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Carl Christlieb2, Solomon Christlieb3 & Sarah Crislip3, Matilda Ellen Christlieb4, James A. Heckman5) [835], born 18 Aug 1909 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania; died 1985; burial in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, Cumberland, Pennsylvania; married Reta V. ___, born 1906; died 1971.
