Hayward Clarence Chrislip
1879–1917
Hayward Clarence Chrislip (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, George Chrislep3, Thomas B. Chrislip4, Jacob Lloyd Lowndes Chrislip5) [177], born 18 Jan 1893, Brushy Fork, Barbour County, West Virginia; died 16 Jan 1967, burial in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson County, Kansas; married Lela Lucille Jackson, born ca. 1898, Oklahoma.
“Hayward Clarence Chrislip was the middle son of Jacob Lloyd Lowndes Chrislip. He was born on Brushy Fork, Barbour County, West Virginia. The family moved to Ohio and then to Western Kansas. Asby, the oldest son, went back to Akron, Ohio. Hayward Clarence developed a lung illness and the family moved to Jay, Oklahoma and ran a general store for about a year before returning to Kansas. Jacob Lloyd gave Hayward Clarence and Hartsil (the fourth son) a wagon and team to return to Oklahoma. On their way they spent their last dime for a loaf of bread at a farm house. While drawing water at the well, they saw butter hanging in the well and “borrowed” some for the bread. They worked in the wheat harvest and Hartsil went back to western Kansas and Hayward Clarence went to the oil fields. He worked as a rig builder and construction foreman for thirty years. Clarence moved to McPherson, Kansas to be near his brothers a few years before his death and is buried there.” Wanda Chrislip Mefford, Duncan, Oklahoma.
