Johnson Ward "W.B." Crislip

1825–1872

Johnson Ward “W.B.” Crislip (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, William Chrislip3), born 23 February 1825, Harrison County Virginia; died after April 1872; married 1st, 3 September 1846, Melinda “Belinda” Gregory, born 1827; married 2nd, Mary E.J. Gregory. Johnson Ward Crislip served in the Union Army in Company H, 10th Regiment, West Virginia Infantry.


Johnson W. Crislip Signature

A deed involving Johnson W. Crislip and his brother, Perry Green, reads as follows:

“This deed made this 26th day of November 1869 between John [sic] W. Crislip, Grantor [and] Perry G. Crislip, Trustee of Jeb Blenin, Grantee, all of the County of Barbour and State of West Virginia. Witnesseth that Johnson W. Crislip hereby grants and conveys to P.G. Crislip 4 head of Horses & a cow to secure Jeb Blenin in the sum of three hundred & fifty dollars payable 6 months from the 25th November 1869 with interest from date by note not executed to the said Commission. The conditions of this Trust are thus, at the time $350 become due or thereafter, it shall be the duty of the Trustee at the request of the grantee to sell at Public Sale, at some Public place in the county, after giving notice according to law, the above described property for cash in hand and after paying the expenses of this Trust…”

Cunningham; married 2nd, Peter Sine, born ca. 1822.

  • Frederick Frye Dolan Crislip (Friedrich Carl Christlieb1, Jacob Christlieb2, William Chrislip3, Johnson Ward Crislip4) [622], born 9 Apr 1852, Barbour County, West Virginia; died 2 Feb 1937, Maidsville, Monongalia County, West Virginia; married 15 Jan 1873, Ritchie County, West Virginia, Theodosia Montgomery; born 9 Oct 1858, Culpeper, Culpeper County, Virginia; died 27 April 1938, Harrison County, West Virginia. His occupation was listed as farmer in 1880, and as a coal miner in 1900. His burial was 4 Feb 1937, and hers was 29 Apr 1938, in Mount Clare Odd Fellows Cemetery, Harrison County, West Virginia.

In the Federal Census of 1870, Rachel E. Crislip was residing with her uncle, William Turner Crislip in Warren Township in Upshur County, along with William’s wife, Mary, and their five children, as well as her grandmother, Hannah Ward Crislip.
