Selected History of German Sites Relative to Our Early Christlieb Ancestors

Presented here are brief accounts regarding historic sites relative to our ancestors, before they emigrated from the German Rhineland to America in 1765.

  • Frankenstein:Historical Background, by Karl Lieser. This information pertains to the village that was home to Friedrich Carl Christlieb before his conversion to Christianity.

  • Dürkheim’s Colorful Past – A Retrospective View, by Georg Feldmann. This has been extracted from the writings of Dürkheim’s eminent historian, Georg Feldmann, who has maintained an active interest in the Christlieb family from the time Ned Crislip first met him at Dürkheim’s City Hall in 1976, until his death in 2004.

  • The Schlosskirche at Dürkheim is a brief history of the building in which our Christlieb family came into being in 1742.

  • The House of Wittlesbach is a short history of the family of rulers of Bavaria and of the Rhenish Palatinate, which includes Prince Elector Karl Philipp III, God-sponsor of Friedrich Carl Christlieb at his conversion ceremony.

  • The Houses of Leiningen played a very important part in the ruling class over Dürkheim during the time that Friedrich Carl and Anna Catharina Christlieb lived nearby.

  • The Limburg Ruin stands high above the village of Grethen, the village where Friedrich Carl and Anna Catharina lived prior to their emmigration from Germany to America.

  • Like the castle ruins of Frankenstein and Dürkheim, the Wachtenburg Castle ruin at Wachenheim would number among several ancient sites in the Fatherland that would have remained in the memories of the Christlieb family, after immigrating to America.
