1871 Deed: Martin Chrislip to Benjamin McCoy

This deed made the 29th day of December 1871 between Martin Chrislip of the county of Webster and State of West Virginia of the first part and Benjamin McCoy, of the county of Barbour and state aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of Nineteen hundred and ninety dollars, four hundred dollars in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged one hundred and eighty one dollars and sixty six & two third cents payable by note executed this day on or before the 1st day of October 1872, $281.66 2/3 payable on or before the 1st day of October 1873, $281.66 2/3 payable on or before the 1st day of October 1874, $281.66 2/3 payable on or before the 1st day of October 1875, $281.66 2/3 payable on or before the 1st day of October 1876, $281.66 2/3 payable on or before the 1st day of October 1877, being the last payment and residue of a tract or parcel of land sold by the said Martin Chrislip to the said Benjamin McCoy, the said Martin Chrislip of the first part doth grant, bargain, sell and convey to the said Benjamin McCoy, his heirs and assigns forever, the following described tract or parcel of land with general warranty being & lying in the county of Barbour on Chrislip Run, and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a Poplar, a corner of lands of Jacob Rodgers and running thence S 45 E 70 poles to a rock and corner to A. R. Talbott’s land, Thence S 79 ¼ E 73 poles to a Black Walnut, corner to A. R. Talbotts land, thence N 44 ½ E 40 poles & 16 links to a Chestnut Oak, a corner to lands of Joshua Woods, thence N 50 ½ 105 poles & 10 links to a White Oak, thence N 38 E 43 poles & 18 links to a Poplar, another corner to said Woods tract, thence N 54 E. 11 poles to a Locust another corner to said Woods land, thence N 39 E 5 poles to a stake corner to Joseph B. Adams land, thence with said Joseph B. Adams several lines, N 61 W 45 poles to a stake in Jacob Rodger’s line, thence N 70 W 13 poles and 9 links to a stake, thence S 77 W 9 poles & 19 links to a stake, thence 11 W 4 poles to a stake on the drain side N 51 ½ W 12 poles & 20 links to a stake, thence N 38 W 14 poles & 17 links to a stake, thence N 54 W 9 poles & 15 links to a stake, thence N 50 W 10 poles and 6 links to a stake, thence N 54 W 9 poles & 15 links to a stake, thence N 50 W 10 poles & 6 links to a stake, thence N 80 W 2 poles to a stake, at the Bridge, thence N 32 W 6 poles & 10 links crossing the run to a stake on Jacob Rogers line, S 44 W 130 poles to the beginning 99 ½ acres being the same more or less. It is expressly understood between the parties to the deed that his deed embraces the road leading to Jacob Rodgers house where he now lives, but ___the said McCoy his heirs & assigns to have the said road until the said is discontinued by law or otherwise to have and to hold the said described tract or piece of land to the said Benjamin McCoy his heirs and assigns forever. This Deed made and entered into this 20 day of December A.D. 1889 between Jesse Nixon and Malinda J. Nixon his wife the grantors of the first part and Martin Crislip the grantee of the second part all of Upshur County, W. Va. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of one hundred and twenty-four dollars paid in hand the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said grantors do grant, sell and convey unto the grantee Martin Crislip all of the following described real estate lying in Banks District Upshur County, West Va. On the waters of the Little Kanawha River and bounded as follows: Beginning at a Poplar and Red Oak running thence S. 53 E. 47 poles to a stake and pointers: S. 76 W. 42 poles to a chestnut: N. 71 W. 22 poles to a stake: N. 42, E. 40 poles to the beginning containing seven acres and one hundred poles more or less being the land granted by Senis (?) Rice to Malinda J. Nixon. And the grantors covenant to and with the grantee that they have the right to convey said real estate and they warrant generally the title to the same retaining possession of the same until April 1, 1890 — Witness the following signatures and seals, the day and date above written.

This Deed made and entered into this 20th day of December A.D. 1889, between Ulysses S. G. Gould and W.A. Williams and Rosanna Williams, his wife the grantors of the first part and Martin Crislip the grantee of the second part all of Upshur County, W. Va. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of three hundred dollars paid in hand the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the grantors do grant, sell and convey unto the grantee all of the following described real estate lying on the water of the Kanawha River in Banks District, Upshur Co. W.Va. and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a Poplar and Red Oak corner also of lots No. 9 & No. 8 of the “Davenport Division,” thence No. 55 W. 80 poles to a stake and pointers, N. 35 E. 80 poles to a stake and pointers in a line of lot No. 4 of said Davenport Division and with the same S. 55 E. 80 poles to the Beginning containing forty acres more or less and the first parties covenant to and with said grantee Martin Crislip that they have the right to convey said real estate and that they warrant generally the title to the same and give full possession on January 10, 1890.

This agreement made this 20th February 1894 between Wm. H. Oldaker of the first part and Martin Crislip of the second part, both of Gilmer County, West Va. Witnesseth: The said Oldaker has this day sold unto the said Crislip the balance of the land which was heretofore bought of Wm. M. Arnold including the House, Barn and all its appurtenances and belongings, Containing by Lewis’ survey 80 ½ acres. For the sum of Twenty One Hundred Dollars, which is to be paid as follows: Four Hundred and fifty Dollars is to be paid cash in hand about the 1st day of April, 1894 and the residue is to be divided into four equal annual payments with interest. The said Oldaker is to give the said Crislip full possession on or before the 30th day of April 1894. The said Crislip is to have the right to begin work at anytime. The deed is to be made about the first [of] April, at which time the payments is made, and the notes executed, and a lien will be retained for the unpaid purchase money. Said Oldaker reserves his lumber, and Bell, and Window blinds. The said Oldaker is to have the stone walk completed, and said Crisip is to pay for the work to cost about $8.00. The said Crislip is to cut, save, and thresh the wheat now on the land for one third the wheat and all the straw, and said Oldaker is to have the other two thirds. For the true performance of this contract we both bind ourselves this day, Feb. 20th 1894.
