We thank Joyce and Roger Crislip for their very informative article on the Sixteenth Biennial Reunion of the Christlieb-Chrislip-Crislip Family Reunion, much of which appears here. This will give the reader an idea of just how much fun we have at our reunions. You can click on the pictures shown here for a larger view. At the bottom of this page is another link to even more pictures. Be sure to check those out, too!

The road to Paintsville, Kentucky, was unfamiliar, but beautiful to traverse. It was the height of the summer and the foliage was in its full glory. One would have to be blind to miss the trees, shrubs and flowers that lined the way. The interstate cut through many mountains with craggy vertical rocks lining the highway. Even the weather cooperated for this sojourn into the heart of eastern Kentucky for the Sixteenth Biennial Reunion of the Christlieb-Chrislip-Crislip clan.

Upon arrival at the Ramada Inn on Thursday afternoon, we were greeted by family members who were remembered from past reunions as well as many newcomers. We quickly checked in and drove to the traditional cookout at Paintsville Lake State Park, a lovely serene setting where more than 40 members of the clan gathered to enjoy food and fellowship. Following the meal, many attended a Music Pickin' at the Country Music Highway Museum while some returned to the hotel to relax and/or enjoy more visiting.

The reunion officially began Friday afternoon with everyone gathering in the east conference room to view a vast amount of memorabilia and listen to Ned Crislip share excerpts from "Ancestors and Descendants of Friedrich Carl and Anna Catharina Christlieb", the pre-American story of our family.

The heritage history at the evening gathering continued with the marriage of Friedrich Carl Christlieb and Anna Catharina Bock and their immigration to America. Following this, much time was spent enjoying the displays and "catching up" on the lives of relatives who had congregated from many parts of the United States.

Saturday's program began with an invocation by Roger Alan Crislip, welcoming words from Bill Bland, Association President, and the continuing saga of how our family association came to be. A poem by Barbara Crislip Parry was read, as well as the Amorbach Letter, and information about Rev. Abraham R. Crislip, the progenitor of the Kentucky branch of the family.

Elaine Crislip Eakin and her sister, Patrida Crislip Roberts, daughters of beloved former President, Denver Earl Crislip, Sr., closed the meeting with several Appalachian Mountain dulcimer selections.

The afternoon session consisted of Ned sharing the family's early years in America, followed by more precious fellowship and non-ending sharing of memorabilia and memories.

Food is a highlight of every get together and the Saturday evening banquet was definitely a highlight of the reunion. Held in the southeast conference room with round tables, each seating eight people, and formal decorations in summer colors, the room was beautiful. The buffet table held ample and delicious fare, so that no one went hungry. Lee Wise's video show of the historic trip to Germany, in 2004, was well documented and interesting. There were seventy-seven in attendance at the banquet.

The obligatory business meeting was held Sunday morning with President Bill Bland presiding. Roll call found 27 voting members and guests present. Officers' reports were concise; the Audit Committee found the Treasurer's books to be in order. Much time was spent with the revisions to the constitution. This necessary bit of business was done with thoughtful discussion and accomplished in an orderly, if lengthy, manner.

Elected officers for 2013-2015 are: Ned Crislip, President; Greg Kough, Vice President; David Downs, Secretary; Roger Roberts, Treasurer; Lee Wise, Newsletter Editor. The officers were duly installed by retiring President, Bill Bland.

The benediction was given by Rev. Rudi Weber, on video, from the visit to Bad Dürkheim in 2004, thanks to the technical prowess of Lee Wise, who, incidentally, will be taking over the helm of the family newsletter in 2014. The farewells in the hotel lobby were sweet and lingering.
